The garage is typically the first structure mice colonize from outside it’s the least sealed part of most homes, and the bottom of a standard garage door leaves a gap even when fully closed. Mice establish scent trails in the garage first, then find the shared wall between the garage and the kitchen or utility room, and follow plumbing runs or wiring penetrations straight into the house. Treating the interior without treating the garage and sealing the shared-wall connections is the most common reason mice keep reappearing in kitchens even after interior trapping.
